Why has the price of our magazine increased?

Starting from the seventh issue of FUTBOLISTA Magazine, issues will be priced at £7.99 rather than £6.99 (before postage fees).
It's no secret that an independent magazine needs to accept some losses to begin with while building up a consistent number of readers. However, with FUTBOLISTA being run by one student (me – Archie Willis) the long-term future of the mag needs to be assured. I always hope for an overnight boom in readers after releasing a new issue because I think the quality is there. Unfortunately that increase is yet to happen.
I'm hesitant to up the price of the mag as losing readers is always a worry. But in order to sustain that quality it's a decision I need to take – even the smallest of profits is now a necessity. Paying writers, artists and photographers as best as I can for their work is so important to me. And with some sort of boost to the magazine's finances it would be possible to continue doing so for a long time.
Jumping from £6.99 to £7.99 is hopefully not a huge jump, and for readers to understand why I'm changing the price would be great. The quality of the magazine will continue to improve with each issue – that I am sure of. It will always be worth your money.
Being "editor" of a magazine is something more than a hobby during long breaks from uni. Creating each issue and seeing the final product is special. But to continually be concerned by money is difficult, and a worry which I hope will be reduced with a slight price shift.
Thanks for reading,
Archie Willis – Editor at FUTBOLISTA Magazine
